Oct 5, 2022 (WED), 9:50 AM, POWHATAN STATE PARK, C/3

Hopefully Metro Richmond will experience some relatively comfortable temperatures in October so Jim and Meredith Henry (j.m.henry@verizon.net or 804 513-0365) invite you to join them for a 5+ mile hike at Powhatan State Park on Wednesday, October 5.  Just show up and be ready for a great hike: trekking beside the Mighty James, and enjoying the early colors of Fall!  No contact with Jim is necessary!  All participants are required to have Covid vaccinations.

After entering the park’s entrance, display your state park pass or pay the fee, take the first left onto River Launch Road to meet at the boat landing at 9:50 AM.  We will begin hiking promptly at 10:00 AM.  The hike is moderately difficult with one long, steep climb, along with a few other challenging inclines, declines, surface roots, and rocks.  It is suggested that one wear hiking boots and carry walking sticks, especially if there have been recent rains.

From Richmond, go to the interchange of Rt. 288 and Patterson Avenue (Rt. 6), driving West along Rt. 6 approximately 13 miles, taking a left onto 522 South.  After crossing the river, continue for 1.5 miles looking for the Powhatan State Park sign.  Turn right onto Rt. 617.  From Southside, take US 60 West from Midlothian, then US 522 North to a left turn onto Rt. 617.  Travel on Rt. 617 for about 1.4 miles, turning right into the park.  Restroom stops are planned during the hike.   If weather permits bring a bagged lunch and eat with us at the river pavilion at hikes end.
