SORRY, THIS HIKE IS NOW FULL. HOPE TO SEE YOU ON THE NEXT ONE
Bill Tennant (willyten10@aol.com or (804) 282-0590) This beautiful state park is about an hour and a half southeast of Richmond on the southern shore of the James River. The level 5.5 mile hiking loop traverses some of the oldest continually farmed acreage in the US as well as wetlands, an old saw mill, and an antebellum house and garden. The hike ends with a nice walk along the sandy beaches of the James. We should finish the hike by early afternoon, but the area has plenty of things to fill an afternoon. Pack a lunch and enjoy the peace and quiet of the Park and the James, drive down to the well known Virginia Diner for lunch, drive down to Smithfield for an afternoon of lunch and shopping, or visit the 17th century Bacon’s Palace, the oldest brick building in the US. On the way back, take the free ferry from Surry to Jamestown and enjoy the views on a fine Virginia November afternoon. Covid rules apply- no carpooling, social distancing, no recent covid symptoms or exposure, limited group size. SIGN UP REQUIRED FOR THIS HIKE Contact Bill for sign up and starting time.
