Join me for hiking approximately 5 miles along Beaver Lake, Ground Pine Path, Powhatan, and Big Poplar trails. The Beaver Lake trail is rather hilly, has lots of ruts and roots that can be a hazard and especially treacherous for anyone who is unstable on their feet. Therefore, I recommend having 1 or 2 hiking poles. The park entrance is on Beach Road (Rt. 655) 4.1 miles west of Rt. 10 (Ironbridge Rd.). There is a $7 parking fee and having exact change would be a good idea in case the contact station is closed. VA State Park Passholders need only to display their pass. Beware that VA State Parks do patrol and write parking fines. Beyond the contact station follow State Park Road a mile or so. Enter the large parking lot to the right and meet at 9:50 by the restrooms near the swimming pool. No need to sign up for this hike.
