March 1 (Wed) Powhatan State Park; 5-mile hike (C3), with option for 10 miles Steve Parker (Stephen.parker4@verizon.net or 804-955-7179) and Jay Henderson (hendje3@gmail.com or 804-244-2287) invite you to join them for a hike at Powhatan State Park. Meet at 9:50 AM at the Trailhead/Equestrian parking lot on the left-hand side of the road. There are restrooms at this parking lot.
Follow the entrance road approximately 1.5 miles to the Trailhead/Equestrian parking lot on the left-hand side of the road. We will begin hiking promptly at 10:00 AM. The hike will be approximately 5 miles. We will return to the parking lot. For those interested, we will rest and snack for about 30 minutes, and then proceed on a different 5-mile hike. The trail may be wet, with numerous trip hazards such as leaves, roots, and horse poop piles. It is suggested that all wear hiking boots and walking sticks at your discretion.
From Richmond, go to the interchange of Rt. 288 and Patterson Avenue (Rt 6), driving West along Rt. 6 approximately 13 miles, taking a left onto 522 South. After crossing the river, continue for 1.9 miles looking for the Powhatan State Park sign. Turn right onto Rt. 617. From Southside, take US 60 West from Midlothian, then US 522 North to a left turn onto Rt. 617. Travel on Rt. 617 for 1.4 miles, turning right into the park. Upon reaching the park, pay the parking fee or display your state park pass.
