We'll be hiking to Herbert Hoover's presidential retreat at the source of the Rapidan River, but with a twist - following the curvy Rapidan Fire Road down to the camp. The hike will be a lollipop in configuration (with a "stick" on each side of the lollipop) and will be about 10.6 miles. We'll start and end at Big Meadows - post hike milkshakes, anyone? - returning on the Mill Prong Horse Trail from Rapidan Camp to the Rapidan Fire Road. The hike will be mostly downhill on the way to the camp and mostly uphill on the hike back out. Elevation loss and gain will be in the 800 - 1,000 foot range. Expect lots of wildflowers if they haven't yet gone by. Contact Art Ritter at o2behiking@yahoo.com if interested. Deadline to sign up is Monday night, as I won't have email access from Tuesday morning onward.
