Powhatan State Park 10-mile hike (B3)

  • 07 Dec 2023

Steve Parker (Stephen.parker4@verizon.net or 804-955-7179) invites you to join him for a hike at Powhatan State Park.  Meet at 9:00 AM at the car park for Picnic Shelter #3, which is by the James River. There are restrooms at this car park.  Please let Steve know if you plan to come.

Follow the entrance road approximately 1 mile and take the first left (River Launch Rd) which is opposite the playground.  Follow the road down to the river. Don’t forget to pay your parking fee.

We will begin hiking promptly at 9:00 AM. The hike will be approximately 10 miles, with potential restroom/hydration breaks along the way. We will return to the parking lot. The trail may be wet, with numerous trip hazards such as leaves, roots, and horse poop piles. It is suggested that all wear hiking boots and walking sticks at your discretion.

From Richmond, go to the interchange of Rt. 288 and Patterson Avenue (Rt 6), driving West along Rt. 6 approximately 13 miles, taking a left onto 522 South. After crossing the river, continue for 1.9 miles looking for the Powhatan State Park sign. Turn right onto Rt. 617. From Southside, take US 60 West from Midlothian, then US 522 North to a left turn onto Rt. 617. Travel on Rt. 617 for 1.4 miles, turning right into the park. Upon reaching the park, pay the parking fee or display your state park pass.
