We'll do an easy hike of about four miles on the Malvern Hill Battlefield, which was the last major engagement of the Seven Days Battle in the summer of 1862 - Lee vs. McClellan. Meet at 9:50 at the main parking lot off Willis Church Road. This is where the US Park Service has an informational kiosk and where there is a row of cannons. (No, we will not be firing the cannons, so please leave all gunpowder, ramrods, and grape shot at home!!!!) The hike will take about 2 hours. Afterwards, people can decide on a lunch spot. I have surgery the end of the month, and am avoiding indoor groups to the extent possible, so I will not be joining in for lunch.
Directions from the Richmond Area: either route 5 out of Richmond or Route 5 East Exit from I-295. Then, after 4 miles or so along Rt. 5, parallelling the Virginia Capital Trail, look for Route 156 (Willis Church Road) on the left. Take this turn, and after a number of curves, and a very sharp left turn, the parking area will be very shortly on the left.
