Susan Chappell will lead a hike at Pamplin Historical Park in Dinwiddie on March 27, 2024. The hike is approximately 4-5 miles. The terrain in fairly flat with a few hills. From June 1864 through April 1865, U.S. Grant, and Robert E Lee fought for control of Petersburg. The contest ended on the morning of April 2, 1865 at what is now Pamplin Historical Park. The Federals called their victory "The Breakthrough". We will follow the Breakthrough Trail, and Headwater trail to a section of Petersburg National Battlefield ending at Fisher Fort on Flank Road. It is an out and back trail. Meet at 9:50am at the main entrance parking area of Pamplin Park off of Route 1 in Dinwiddie. From Richmond it takes about 30 minutes traveling on I-95 South and then I-85 South taking exit 63A merging onto Boydton Plank Road and destination will be 1.1 miles on the left.
